Alpinia caerulea 'Red Form' is a striking Australian native ginger with bold, glossy green foliage and distinctive red stems and leaf sheaths, adding vibrant colour and texture to tropical or native garden designs. Small white flowers appear in clusters, followed by attractive blue fruit. Roots can be consumed, and reportedly taste similar to ginger (lending this plant its common name). Thriving in part shade to filtered sun, it prefers moist, well-drained soil and benefits from regular watering during dry periods. This hardy, low-maintenance plant is ideal for understorey planting, borders, or as a lush feature in shaded areas.
Mature size: 1.5–2m high x 1–1.5m wide.
