Fatsia japonica, also known as Japanese Aralia, is a bold, evergreen shrub admired for its large, glossy, palmate leaves that bring a lush, tropical feel to shaded gardens or indoor spaces. It thrives in partial to full shade and prefers rich, well-draining soil with consistent moisture—though it’s fairly drought-tolerant once established. Water regularly during dry spells, and mulch annually to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds. It’s low-maintenance, resilient, and ideal for underplanting, containers, or as a statement foliage plant.
