Asparagus is a fast-growing hardy plant. New green shoots appear in the spring, which can be harvested throughout the season and Summer. Plant the dormant Asparagus crowns in winter in well drained humus-rich soil. It will take 18 months from the planting date until the plant will produce the first usable harvest. These plants require a sunny position and a permanent spot in the garden as they can last up to 10+ years. Asparagus Crowns will require moderate watering in dry hot weather, mulching the plants will help to retain moisture when it is most needed.
