Scoria has several useful characteristics for a variety of applications:

• bottom drainage layer in pots and planter boxes
• for garden beds as an inorganic mulch
• lightweight drainage material behind retaining walls.

It is somewhat porous, has high surface area and high strength to weight ratio. It is also perfect for use in BBQ areas and decorating garden beds.
