Lonicera americana Honeysuckle 14cm

Lonicera americana, or the American Honeysuckle, is a delightful semi-evergreen climber with deep green foliage and summer-autumn floral displays. Flowers are deep pink and creamy yellow with a pleasant fragrance, and are attractive to pollinators. The perfume is strongest at night. Autumn also sees red berries develop after flowering has concluded, adding yet another layer of ornamental excellence to this plant, as well as another reason for beneficial birds and insects to visit the garden.

As a climber, American Honeysuckle requires a trellis or support, otherwise it makes a fantastic groundcover or looks excellent if allowed to ramble through a large shrub. It performs best planted in moderately fertile, well-drained soil, planted so that its roots are shaded but tendrils are able to seek the sun. Water to establish, and fertilise in spring with a slow-release fertiliser - we recommend B-Green Organic Slow Release.
